Testers from the publication said: “There’s a liveliness to the steering that makes most rivals seem soft and spongy.” They continued: “It starred in the braking tests, making rivals look ordinary in the wet. There was also a clear margin in the dry.”

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 was up against eight competitor tyres from manufacturers including Continental, Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear and Hankook.

Many of the technologies incorporated in the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 were developed from the manufacturer’s involvement in Formula E – the world’s first electric single-seater race series.

Rebeca Nieto, Michelin’s Commercial Director for Car, Van and 4 x 4 in the UK and Ireland, said: “The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is testament to our track to street philosophy. We got involved with Formula E at its inception because we knew we would learn so much in a very short space of time.

“The series uses a tyre size that relates to on-the-road cars and it takes place on real roads with potholes, rough surfaces, grids, surface paint and everything else motorists are faced with every day.

“Not only that, the tyre has to be able to handle high performance in both the wet and the dry, it has to be extremely durable and it has to be very efficient to prolong battery life.

“We’re very proud that the exceptional performance of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 has been recognised by the Auto Express testers.”

The ultra-responsive tread on the Michelin Pilot Pilot Sport 4 constantly adapts to the road thanks to the interaction between architecture, tread pattern and compound – creating the optimal contact patch at all times.

New Dynamic Response technology consists of a belt with hybrid aramid and nylon reinforcement that ensures optimal directional control.

Meanwhile a new very homogeneous compound mix features functional elastomers to improve the distribution of fine silica, enhancing wet braking, while water evacuation is maximised with deep, wide longitudinal grooves. The new mixture also improves the tyre’s longevity and fuel efficiency.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is available in 22 of the most popular tyre sizes.

Maxxis Motorcycle Tyres http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/maxxis-motorcycle-tyres/ Mon, 12 Jan 2015 10:07:44 +0000 http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/?p=1267 Maxxis tyres have come a long way in recent years. Maxxis now produce motorcycle tyres that have very good wet and dry traction and longevity compared to a few years ago. I would even say they grip as well or even better than a lot of the well known brands such as Pirelli & Bridgestone.

Maxxis Motorcycle Tyres

The key to this improvement appears to be in the shape of diamonds! The Supermaxx Diamonds unique high-tension carcass construction incorporates a joint-less mono-spiral Kevlar belt, which increases carcass strength and uniformity under extreme load conditions Maxxis’ Diamond carcass has been developed to equalise pressure distribution, minimise distortion and increase the tyres contact area by 10% at 35 degrees, increasing cornering stability, and as a result cornering camber angle can be increased by up to 10 degrees* Stiffer side walls ensure that the Supermaxx Diamond maintains its handling characteristics under typical loads for touring applications, without compromising handling or stability.

My personal experience of riding on a track day with Maxxis MA3DS Supermaxx Diamonds – fitted front and rear to a FZR600
The first thing I noticed was how quick the Maxxis tyres warm up after 1 lap. I had to come in after on the 1st lap as a great big fly splattered in the middle of my visor and was affecting my viability. I felt the tyres while I had my gloves off and they felt sticky and very warm and this was in damp conditions, it was not raining – rather a typical British grey day. Back out again with the knowledge that the Maxxis were warm enough I started giving it some – the confidence these Maxxis tyres give you is awesome. I’m not usually a knee down kind of guy, usually I’m gripping the tank with my knees all the way – I’m quite a big guy and the FZR is quite a small bike so I’ve never felt that happy hanging my arse off the seat the get my knees down – Not any more. The following video is the product launch held in Portugal for the Maxxis MA3DS Diamond Sports Tourer Tyre.

VIP Technology combines a series of computer-aided analysis programs that allow our scientists to predict a tyre’s performance before it enters Maxxis-vip-technologyproduction. The system factors in pressure points at varying inflation levels and contact points to simulate cornering, acceleration, braking and the effects of strain and wear. Only when the design concept passes careful VIP analysis can it progress to the production stages.

Winter Snow Tyres http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/winter-snow-tyres/ Thu, 20 Oct 2011 06:06:13 +0000 http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/?p=121 Winter Snow Tyres

Winter tyres Croydon

Winter tyre offers. We have a range of budget and brand Goodyear Dunlop & Pirelli & Michelin tyres in stock.

Winter can be challenging for any driver, with plummeting temperatures, road conditions change suddenly – from snow to slush, from wet to ice, from dry to wet. Cold Weather tyres, combined with appropriate driving skills and behaviour during these unpredictable conditions, increase road safety significantly. For the best cold weather tyres, you can rely on Goodyear.
Goodyear Ultra Grip 8The new UltraGrip 8 is the first directional tyre using patented 3D-BIS (Block Interlocking System) Technology™ throughout the entire tread pattern. It offers more grip, shorter braking distances and improved handling. In some situations, one metre shorter braking distance can make a big difference.

The major problem is the traffic queues on the way to and home from work in the Croydon and Bromley areas when there is just a sprinkle of snow, it’s not too bad if your moving slowly but all that stop, start, spinning and sliding can be quite stressful.

Give us a call for a quote on Winter or snow tyres as they are not listed on our online tyre booking system.

Wheel Alignment Tracking http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/wheel-alignment/ http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/wheel-alignment/#comments Thu, 23 Dec 2010 19:43:07 +0000 http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/?p=39 Tracking or Wheel Alignment

Note: If you are looking for a wheel alignment settings chart you probably will not find one on the net! Do a search specific to your vehicle on forums elated to your vehicle. If you find an un copyright chart, let us know as we would like to link to it.

Incorrect wheel alignment or tracking can result in premature and irregular tyre wear and can even affect the handling and road-worthiness of your vehicle. The first thing to do if your car is pulling to one side is to check your tyre pressures and tread depths to make sure it’s not just a tyre low on pressure on one side or bald on the inside.

Although there are many factors that can lead to incorrectly aligned wheels, the most common contributors include driving against a kerb, hitting a pothole in the road or excessive wear to linked components such as steering ball joints such as track rods or suspension.

It is important that your wheel alignment is set to the specification required by your vehicle.

The alignment at which tyres are set is important. Wheel alignment or ‘tracking’ involves checking the direction and angle against vehicle manufacturers’ specifications.
These are often described as toe in, toe out, negative or positive.
Higher fuel consumption as well as excessive tyre wear are a factor of mis-alignment of your wheels.

Snow Socks for Tyres http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/snow-socks-tyres/ Fri, 17 Dec 2010 19:09:48 +0000 http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/?p=86 Gripping Stuff Snow Socks!

With all of the snow and ice forcast on the roads this Winter, there’s one way you can stop your car tyres from sliding on the ice? Snow socks are made of fabric and work better than snow chains, they provide a quick, easy to fit alternative to snow chains, meaning you don’t have to swap to winter tyres.
Snow socks are textile socks which you pop over the driving wheels of your car or light van. On 4×4 cars, you put the snow socks over the front tyres. These fabric snow socks provide grip on icy roads. It’s easy to fit them, no practice is needed. Snow socks for tyres are usable time and again and take up hardly any space in the car.

Car Winter Safety Checks http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/car-winter-safety-check/ Sun, 12 Dec 2010 08:37:58 +0000 http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/?p=55 Car Checks You Should Make Before Setting Out This Winter

Make sure all your lights are working, you have enough fuel including a bit extra in case you get stuck in a traffic jam. Have look at your tyres and check the tyre pressures, I have seen some folk driving around with almost flat tyres recently and we have had a few comming in wanting the air pumped up as they let the air out so the tyres would grip more when trying to get their cars out of their drives. In theory this does work and can get you out of a sticky or slippery situation HOWEVER I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH that you must replace the air in your tyres as soon as you are unstuck and not wobble your way to the nearest airline! So it may be a good idea to get a tyre foot pump or one that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. have a look at the washer bottle and topup with a screenwash as this will prevent it freezing and leaving you with a smeared window that you can hardly see out of.

Take a blanket, some food and water and if you think it may be really bad take a shovel. Think about buying a portable potty or something you can have a pee in! Nowt worse than being stuck in a traffic jam and your busting for a pee. I mean you can’t just jump out and have one at the side of the road if your a lady.

Your welcome to add suggestions and comments on how you survive Winter driving.

Tyre Pressures http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/tyre-pressures/ Wed, 08 Dec 2010 14:23:01 +0000 http://croydon-mot-tyres-servicing.com/?p=36 Free Tyre Pressure Check at Croydon

Incorrectly inflated tyres will greatly shorten your tyres lifespan, can increase fuel consumption and even make your car or motorcycle unsafe to drive. It is therefore important to keep your tyres at the correct pressure.

To ensure you get the best performance and mileage out of your tyres you should check the tyre pressures at least every two weeks when the tyres are cold, the air inside your tyres becomes warmer after the car has been driven, this will cause the pressures to increase, and will give a higher reading than may be expected.

If you have a heavy load in your vehicle, it will be necessary to increase your tyre pressures accordingly, as per the manufacturers recommendations.
